Major Programs & Initiatives


Revitalization of Traditional Cherokee Artisan Resources (RTCAR) is a grantmaking program whose purpose is to assist the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians as the tribe works to restore the traditional Cherokee balance between maintaining and using natural resources like river cane, white oak and clay. RTCAR has been undertaken to teach, protect and promote Cherokee traditional art, resources and land care for present and future generations.

Generations Qualla

While many communities are pursuing environmental sustainability and going green, it has been important to the Cherokee people for many hundreds of years that they be stewards of the land. Generations Qualla reflects traditional Cherokee values and behaviors, and it illustrates how the Tribe strives to strike a balance between natural, cultural, spiritual and economic needs, now and for the next seven generations.
